NOTICE OF PUBLIC INTEREST

� The Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO, or the Department), is in the process of adopting the WEIGHTS AND MEASURES REGULATION. This Regulation is promulgated according to the powers conferred to DACO by virtue of Laws No. 228 of May 12, 1942, No. 5 of April 23^rd, 1973; No. 135 of August 18^th, 1913; No. 3 of March 21^th, 1978; No. 73 of June 23^rd,1978; No. 157 of August 21^st, 1978; No. 454 – 2000; No. 132 – 2001; No. 67 – 2004; No. 10 – 2009 and No. 38 – 2017.

The purpose of the WEIGHTS AND MEASURES REGULATION is to 1) group all the regulations approved by DACO in order to supervise and secure the correct functioning of every weight and measure equipment used in the commercial and industrial sector in Puerto Rico; and) 2) to allow an efficient operation of the Weights and Measures Department. This Regulation supersedes and repeals the following Regulations: 1) No. 452, 1957; 2) No. 832, 1963; 3) No. 1306, 1970; 4) No. 1309, 1970; 5) No. 1385, 1970; 6) No. 2590, 1979; 7) No. 2516, 1979; 8) No. 3526, 1987; 9) No. 3711, 1989; 10) No. 6231, 2000; 11) No. 8740, 2016; 12) No. 7086, 2006; 13) No. 7382, 2007;  14) No. 7582, 2008; 15) No. 7580, 2008; 16) No. 8084, 2011; l7) No. 8741, 2016; 18) No. 8742, 2016; and 19) No. 8743, 2016.

The WEIGHTS AND MEASURES REGULATION is available at www.daco.pr.gov. Comments and suggestions can be submitted until July 27^th, 2020, to the following email: secretaria@daco.pr.gov. The Department will also hold oral hearings on July 23^rd, 2020, at Edificio Torre Norte, Centro Gubernamental Minillas. In consideration of the safety and health COVID-19 prevention guidelines, any person interested in expressing their opinions during the oral hearings should notify us at least two days in advance to the email secretaria@daco.pr.gov.
